Peppermint essential oil has been used for thousands of years because of its vast array of medicinal properties. It is most commonly associated with the scent and taste of toothpaste, and is used as an ingredient in oral hygiene products because of its antiseptic properties and ability to kill bacteria and germs. Peppermint oil can be used as temporary relief for headaches, nausea, and motion sickness, and even contains a multitude of vitamins, nutrients, and healthy acids. Peppermint has been medicinally used for so long and to such great effect that some scientific studies have been performed to evaluate the ways that peppermint can be used. However users should note that those benefits are not backed by the FDA and that this article has not evaluated any of those studies in the description of the benefits included herein.
Directions for Use
Diffusion: Use three to four drops in the diffuser of your choice.
Internal use: Dilute one drop in four ounces of liquid (consider water or tea).
Topical use: Apply one to two drops to desired area. Dilute with a carrier oil to minimize the risk of irritation.
Peppermint essential oil is highly concentrated and should be diluted prior to topical or internal use to reduce the risk of irritation or nausea. The use of essential oils should not be substituted for any prescribed medication for any medical condition, and should not be used against the advice of a medical practitioner.
