Clary Sage Essential Oil: Salvia sclarea
Clary sage essential oil has numerous health benefits for the mind and body. The floral scent of this oil can calm the mind, and topical applications can improve the look of hair, skin, and nails.*
Uses: Aromatic, Topical, Internal
Clary sage is extracted by steam distillation from a perennial flower, and it has been used since the Middle Ages for its appealing scent and calming benefits. The floral and light scent makes a great addition to any perfume, and adding a drop or two behind each ear can create an allover peaceful disposition. The scent is also used in diffusers to create a relaxing atmosphere and a sense of focus. The light taste makes it great for combining with other essential oils with relaxing qualities, and it can be dranked in a tea before bed to promote a night of undisturbed sleeping. If you’re experiencing menstrual cramping, you can rub the oil into your abdomen to relieve the pain and to feel less irritated or short tempered.
Directions for Use
Aromatic: Add three to four drops to a diffuser of your choice and inhale.
Topical: Combine a drop or two with shampoo or lotion before applying to hair, skin, and nails. Add a single drop directly to abdomen for relieving cramps.
Internal: Combine with other essential oils in tea, and drink before bed for relaxing sleep.
Clary sage is gentle enough to use on the body without diluting with a carrier oil. If ingesting, it should be diluted with a liquid first. If you’re prone to sensitive skin, combine it with a lotion or liquid. Combine it with a hair product before putting it in your hair. Clary sage should not replace any prescribed medication.
