The benefits of bergamot oil can be harnessed aromatically, topically, and internally. Diffusing the oil into a room will create a pleasant citrus aroma with a hint of spice that can help to relieve tension and focus the mind. This oil also has purifying properties that can improve complexion, and adding a few drops to a facial cleansing product can rejuvenate the skin as well as reduce the appearance of acne and blemishes. The same properties, as well as its antiseptic nature, make bergamot oil a popular addition to homemade cleansing products. Consuming a few drops after a meal can improve digestive function, and may also benefit the nervous and cardiovascular systems as well as boost the metabolism.
Directions for Use
Aromatic: Use three to four drops in the diffuser of your choice.
Topical: Apply one to two drops to desired area; dilute with a carrier oil minimize the risk of irritation.
Internal: Dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid, or take several drops in a veggie capsule.
Bergamot oil can become toxic when exposed to UV ray; store in a cool, dark location and avoid direct sunlight exposure within 12 hours of topical application. Dilute with a carrier oil before applying topically to reduce the risk of irritation. Never use essential oils in place of prescribed medications or against the advice of a doctor.
